a band ...

Since the very beginning of our history, there has been a strong desire to express in music and words the events of daily life, the most meaningful encounters with young people and migrants, and above all the experience of God who accompanies our lives.

To the first songs, composed by Maria Grazia and accompanied by a simple guitar, new songs and authors were gradually added, new musical instruments, new voices of different languages and nationalities, until an international band was born: the Scalabrini band.

... on the way

Like migrants, the Scalabrini band is always on the move and, on the road, it enriches itself with the sounds, melodies, hopes, and nostalgia of the people and peoples it meets. The missionary sisters who make up the band live in different countries and come together for major events that, throughout the year, bring together young people, migrants, and friends on the roads of the exodus.

It is a band—we could say—like an 'accordion' that expands, contracts, and expands again, also enriched by the contribution of young musicians and artists. In the harmony of the different notes, voices, and instruments that distinguish themselves and seek each other out, enhancing one another, one can already experience as a preview the joyful encounter of diversity, which has the flavor of a celebration.

That red moon

The title is taken from the story of some young migrants who, left for long hours of the night at the mercy of the waves in the waters of the Mediterranean, saw a great red moon shining above them that showed them the shore.
The songs express a cry of protest against an individualistic and indifferent society in the face of today's tragedies and, at the same time, a strong message of hope based on the certainty that there is Someone who has taken evil upon himself and transformed it into a New Day for everyone, as one of the songs says.

Êxodo e festa

“Exodus and celebration” is the title of a song that gives its name to the CD – dedicating its songs to all those who discover themselves as a wandering humanity and walk certain of God's plan, in which each one is precious in their diversity. It shows us the way, which leads to the encounter with the other, whether friend or enemy, and to the discovery of the hidden treasure in every exodus.
This treasure allows us to anticipate the celebration of communion and thus live at the frontier and without borders, sharing the road with those who are on the road.

Stranger

… I am being born

The songs collected in this CD express what is seen, encountered, prayed for, and hoped for with migrants and with young people, while remaining on the journey. From this being itinerant, first of all in the heart, to open ourselves to God's gift, the song that gives its name to this CD, “Straniero … sto nascendo” (“Stranger ... I am being born”), takes its title.
Together with “Êxodo e festa” it was recorded on the occasion of the Scalabrinian Centennial.

People who come and go

While accompanying the steps of wandering humanity, the notes of the Scalabrini band intertwine in concert to celebrate Giovanni Battista Scalabrini, Father and Apostle of migrants, beatified on November 9, 1997.
This is how “Gente che va” was born, a CD dedicated to the Scalabrinian Family, to the migrants of the world, to the “Friends on the roads of the exodus,” to young people of different nationalities, who meet to find Life in the challenges and in the celebration of diversity.

DVD It is possible
      ... You can!

a recital that began by listening

to the experiences of migrants,

refugees and young people on the roads of exodus

and was prepared during the meetings

that took place at the International Centres “G. B. Scalabrini".

A live recorded show to announce the certainty that, within the expectations of our present day, a greater plan is being fulfilled… even through the journey of many migrants and refugees: a plan that only great eyes can perceive, as G. B. Scalabrini (1839-1905) had.
